Melt Out fabric is engineered for stretched overhead installations, offering a practical combination of safety, performance, flexibility, and visual consistency:
- Lightweight construction for efficient handling and installation
- Five standard colors: white, black, red, blue, and charcoal
- Cost-effective alternative to rigid ceiling systems and custom-built overhead structures
- An economical alternative to rigid ceiling structures or custom-built elements
Melt Out® Fabric for Overhead Applications
Melt Out® is a stretchable, economical textile designed for overhead ceiling applications in exhibitions, trade show environments, museum displays, and other temporary or permanent installations.
Its textile construction helps diffuse and soften light while providing broad, continuous surface coverage for a clean, finished appearance.
Melt Out® is a woven synthetic fabric incorporating a single fusible thread running the length of the material. Fusible threads are positioned at 12-inch intervals across the width, supporting efficient fabrication and installation for stretched overhead applications.
Fire Performance and Fusible Construction
Melt Out® incorporates a fusible thread woven into the fabric at 12-inch intervals. When exposed to temperatures of approximately 150°F or higher, the fusible thread activates, allowing the fabric to separate along the integrated fusible lines. This construction creates openings that facilitate the passage of smoke and allow fire suppression systems from overhead reach the space below.
As temperatures increase, the fabric contracts along the fusible lines, gathering into narrow, bunched sections and minimizing obstruction beneath the ceiling plane. This allows sprinkler discharge to pass through the fabric with minimal interference.
Melt Out® meets the requirements of NFPA 701, the standard used to evaluate the flame propagation characteristics of textiles and films. The fabric’s tested fire performance provides an additional consideration for applications where fire-safety requirements apply.
